F.A.Q's

Q. How long are the classes and who can attend?
A. The classes are a series of four 1 hour sessions. New strokes are introduced each week so the babies are not overstimulated. The classes are geared towards moms and dads, but anyone can attend. Older siblings like to join in also, by helping mom or dad massage their younger sibling. Sometimes, they like to practice on a doll of their own.

Q. What kind of oil should I use?
A. Either a cold-pressed vegetable oil, or an organic oil such as apricot, sesame seed or grape seed oil, no scented oils. A good rule of thumb is if you would eat the oil (i.e. put it on a salad) then it’s ok for your baby since they are always putting their hands/arms in their mouths. The reason we don’t use any scented oils is so your baby can become familiar with your personal scent. This helps aid in the bonding process.

Q. As my infant grows, will I be able to continue to give them a massage?
A. Absolutely! As your child grows and changes, so does the massage. Even five minutes every few days will be beneficial. Who knows, maybe they will return the favor one day!

Q. When are the classes held?
A. They are private, in your home classes. If you have any friends who have infants roughly the same age as yours, feel free to invite them to join the class. The maximum is 5 babies/parents.

Q. What is the age limit?
A. Generally pre-crawling. Once your baby is on the go, there’s no stopping them!

Q. What items do I need?
A. Whatever you use to make you and your baby comfy such as pillows, blankets or one or two toys.

Q. How should I dress my baby?
A. You always have the option to leave your baby’s diaper on. The room should always be warm and there should always be a supply of blankets.

Q. What if my baby doesn’t like to be massaged?
A. Not all babies are receptive to massage at first. Relax, go slow and gradually they will love it as much as you do!

Q. What if my baby cries during class?
A. All babies cry so it’s welcomed! There is plenty of time to feed, change or comfort your baby, and re-join the class. While you are feeding or changing your baby, you can continue to watch and learn the strokes from the demonstration. If you still have questions, I am always available, so please feel free to ask me after class.

Q. How long will a massage last?
A. In general, 20-30 minutes. Depending on your little one, it could be longer or shorter. There are no set timetables, so just take your time, relax and enjoy the time together!

Q. Who will be massaging my baby?
A. The parents/caregivers always massage their baby. I use a demonstration doll.
